MAINTENANCE OF YOUR GRANITE TOPS

6 December, 2011

Granite is a hard wearing and long lasting work surface

Your granite tops have been sealed with an appropriate granite sealer to assist in their protection against staining. On lighter colours additional coats of sealer may be required to provide extra water repelling protection. Our installer will advise you if this is necessary.

To maintain and keep your tops in their original condition we recommend the following:-

Cleaning

Use warm soapy water (mild detergent) or one of the commercially available granite cleaning products to clean your granite tops.
Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning products.
Do not use highly acidic cleaning products ( e.g. citrus based)
Attend to spills promptly, particularly highly coloured liquids such as red wine or beetroot juice etc.
Avoid allowing spills to dry on the benchtop as some can penetrate into the stone even though it has been sealed.
Oils, citrus juices and acidic fluids can blemish the polished surface if not wiped up reasonably promptly.

Use

Although granite can withstand high temperatures without damage we recommend you use a trivet or board to place hot pans, baking trays, frying pans or other cooking utensils etc, particularly those that may have a coating of oily or acidic liquids.
We recommend the use of a cutting board.
Do not stand or sit on your benchtops.

Maintenance

We recommend that your granite tops should be resealed at least every 10 years (depending on usage and colour) to protect against staining.
